Unfairly accused of Benefit Fraud as I’ve not intentionally done anything wrong

Question: Recently I received a letter stating that I was being investigated about benefit fraud even though as far as I was aware, I’d always made sure I double checked all the forms and only claimed for what I was entitled to and no more.

I’m worried now as they want me to attend an interview and I know I’ll be a bag of nerves and probably incriminate myself by saying something I shouldn’t say.

I’ve been having issues with a neighbour for around 8-12 months now which has been getting me down and causing me a lot of stress. So to add this on top of everything else has really not helped my depression. Friends have said it could have been the neighbour grassing me up or they’re simply ‘fishing’ trying to bait people  into confessing even though they have no evidence to go on.

I really don’t know why they would have picked me out of everyone else, I’m such as honest person and would find it hard to lie at the best of times so I would never do something like this as I would be too frightened of being caught out.

Answer: You will receive a letter to attend an interview under caution. We never allow our clients to be interviewed. There is no compunction to say anything, even if they arrest you.

We handle things quite differently by sending in written statements, which are much better way of getting your story across. If you have no previous convictions we can send in character references and if you have had medical problems a medical report to demonstrate there are 2 sides to the story.

Consult Hylton-Potts, the experts who offer fixed fees, and give excellent value. We are very good at making these problems go away, without convictions publicity or even the risk of prison.

We operate a free and confidential 24 hour email service. Just click on [email protected] or,  during office hours, there is a free and confidential legal helpline 020 7381 8111.
