Does a divorce lawyer change as a result of his or her work?

The Law Society Gazette June 23 2014, http://www.lawgazette.co.uk reminds us in an article well worth reading, about a very experienced divorce lawyer Marilyn Stowe, that dealing with battling couples all day can change a lawyer’s perception not just of their clients but of life generally.

The stress of divorce can bring out bad qualities, anger, acrimony, bitterness even violence but also love and a clarification of ambitions and priorities.

A man might own a property and then gets married and the wife moves in and later they get divorced.  The one thing he wants, is not that she should have a poor accommodation for the children, nor that she should be hurt, but not to keep “his” house.

To do so creates real hatred and other than the costs of moving and upheaval which can be considerable, to move and buy a similar house even slightly smaller can remove a huge source of acrimony.  That is just one of many examples of how an experienced divorce lawyer does not just look in the books but has experience of life and cases.

There is no substitute for experience.  Divorce solicitors are very expensive.  A recent interesting trend is the number of litigants in person who bring in a lawyer just as required rather like a “pay as you go” basis.  A lot of the form filling, Form E and those boring bank statements and preparing photocopying and bundles can be done (with help) by litigants in person, themselves without paying some paralegal an hourly rate (of which the paralegal and the partner trousers the balance receives about one quarter or one third, )

You get what you pay for but, by choosing what you pay for can be life changing.  Lawyers are not doctors.  But the effect they have can be as life changing as a top surgeon.

Why not have a look at the hylton-potts website.
