Debt Collection – Press Information

Hylton-Potts - London Based Law Firm Helping People Across the UK since 1999

The biggest mistake people make commercially is not knowing who their customer is.  Just do a check yourself.  If you are owed money by somebody, are you certain of the exact legal entity that owes you the money?  Is it a man, a woman, a partnership, a company?  If so, which company?  There are plenty of rogues out there who will give you all sorts of funny names and try to dodge their liability, so first of all who exactly is your customer.

Secondly, if you’re owed money a big mistake is to say ‘Well it’s so much, I can’t write it off.’ That’s not the approach.  The correct approach is to say, ‘Can I realistically collect this money whether it be large or small?’   There’s no point in paying a lawyer £10 to get £5 back, and I’ve had many cases where a client has thanked me and suggested we crack a bottle of champagne in the pub.  We do not open our champagne until the money is collected and safely in your account.

We offer various options, sometimes we do a percentage like the Americans or no-win no-fee, and on average we collect debts within a month of receiving instructions.  Only about 5% ever actually get to court.

We offer an ‘Unbundling’ service, where we provide separate items of legal assistance where required, leaving you the client to handle the more routine matters and keep costs well under control. We can offer highly competitive fixed prices for each stage of the case.

The case remains client- led and elements can include advice on law and procedure, drafting documents, consent orders and arranging advocacy with barristers via direct access. You handle the routine correspondence. This is extremely cost-effective.

My nickname is Rottweiler.  You’ve all heard of solicitors’ letters or legal letters demanding money, perhaps you’ve even had them, and so often they’re put under the clock or in the pending tray and they’re ignored.  Not my letters!  I write a letter which is called a ‘Rodney Special’ and it’s not one that people ignore.

My number, direct line, is 020 7381 8111, or email at [email protected].

Why not ring me or email me, let me know about the amount you’re owed, and maybe we can do a deal which will satisfy all of us.  If you owe money to somebody, contact us as well, because there’s more to do to help you than you think.
